July 21, 2010 Marie A.(Clemenz)Rickert Marie A.(Clemenz)Rickert was Jan. 12, 1910, in Lowell Township, Kent county, to Edward B. and Elise (Altaus) Clemenz. She was baptized in the German Methodist Church of Lowell. Our loving matriarch went to be with her Lord on July 20, 2010, age 100, at Emerald Meadows, Grand Rapids. She attended rural schools in Ionia County and Saranac High School. Marie attended Keene Methodist Church and she met the love of her life through the Booster Club, a young people's group. Marie was married to Glen Rickert on May 3, 1930. They built a new home on the Rickert farm in Keene Township and continued the farming operation. In 1987 they moved to Lowell they were married 61 years when Glenn passed away in 1991. She was proud of her Swiss and German heritage her family was very important to her and she encouraged them all to learn about their genealogy. Marie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lowell, being the oldest living member and holding the longest membership. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Louise Clemenz; brothers and sisters-n-law, Theodore and May (Scott) Clemenz, Wesley and Esther (Stahl) Clemenz, Marguerite (Rickert) and Harold Farmer; nephew, John Eugene Wygmans; son-in-law, Donald Weeks; and great-grandson, baby Brendon Schaefer. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Larry Cahoon of Clarksville and Shirley (Weeks) and Gerald Nester of Grand Rapids. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Tim and Nancy Cahoon, Southfield; Brian and Wendy Cahoon, Saranac; Jim and Robin Cahoon, Lowell; Vicki and Mark Soyka, Lowell; Jodi and Bill Schaefer, Lowell; Kurt Weeks, Saranac; Kathy and Lance Kingma, Saranac; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren with two on the way. In addition she is survived by special nieces and nephews, Donna and Gerald Foy, Connie and Rex Dowling, Carol and Steve Narrin, Bruce and Joann Clemenz. While raising her family, Marie was active in 4-H leadership, as board member of rural Cutler School, gardening and canning as well as supporting her family with their activities. After her family was grown she worked for Lowell Engineering and Amway Corp. Following retirement, she and Glenn enjoyed camping with the Hitch and Go Trailer Club and spent several winters in Florida. She later lived as Schneider Manor, Lowell and enjoyed being active in the Lowell Senior Neighbors. She was a Life Member of the Boston-Saranac Historical Society and the Lowell Historical Society. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 621 E.Main St., Lowell., Rev.Rick Blunt, officiating. Interment oakwood Cemetery. Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Roth-Gerst Chapel,305 N.Hudson,Lowell. Marie's family would like to Thank Emerald Meadows and Heartland Hospice for their loving care given to Marie and all of her family.
