Feb. 25, 1982 MARGARET A. RIEGER IONIA - Margaret A. Rieger, 75, of Ionia, one of the first women employees to work inside the walls of a correctional facility, died Tuesday in Dallas, Texas. She was employed for more than 30 years at Michigan Reformatory as a records clerk, retiring in 1973. She was born in Scotland June 9, 1906, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Cunningham McChristie, and came with her family as a child to the U.S. They settled in Linton, Ind., and she graduated from high school there. She attended business college in Bloomington, Ind., and moved to Lansing. She settled in Ionia in 1942 and was employed at the Reformatory. She was married to Walter Rieger in June. 1951. He preceded her in death in 1957. She was a member of First Christian Church of Ionia. Surviving are two sons, James Owens of Dallas, Texas, and Daniel Owens of Irving, Texas; one daughter, Mrs.Doris Todd of Dallas; one brother, Alex McChristie of Santa Barbara, Calif. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial for the American Cancer Society has been established in the care of the funeral home.
