Ionia Sentinel Standard, 30 Mar 1976

Word was received Monday in Muir of the death of Otis Ries, 83, who died in
Zephyrhills, Fla.  He was born July 21, 1892 in Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Ries.  He was married to Lottie B. Wiles who died in October of 1963.  They had made
their home in Ionia and Muir most of their married lives.

He later married Irma Astholz in Florida and they made their home at Zephyrhills
until the time of his death.  He had been employed in Ionia at the Car Shops and the
Ypsilanti Reed Furniture Company and was a self employed carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, Irma; two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Sprank and Mrs. Marilyn
Hanline of Muir and a son Gordon of Ionia; 14 grandchildren and 21 great
grandchildren.  A son, Hubert Ries, preceded him in death in October of 1975.

Services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Lairs funeral home in
Zephyrhills.  Interment will be in Florida.  A memorial has been established for the
Muir First Christian church and contributions may be left with the church treasurer,
Mrs. Virgil Roundtree in Muir.
