He was born in Williams county, Ohio, April 7, 1894, the son of the late John and Laura Ries. He lived several years in Ionia and moved to Lansing about 30 years ago where he was employed at Fisher Body. He was married to Ruth McGowan in Fayette, Ohio, in 1914. He was a member of the Ionia Moose lodge and was an avid sportsman. Members of his bowling team from Lansing will be his pallbearers. Surviving are his wife, Ruth, and one son, Leland, of Lansing; one daughter, Mrs. Shipley Parson of Grand Ledge; two grandchildren; three brothers, Clinton of Ionia, Otis of Muir, and Herman of Toledo; one sister, Mrs. May Hutchinson of Fayette, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at Estee-Leadley funeral home in Lansing and burial will be at Chapel Hill cemetery.
