Ries, 24 years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ries of Ionia, died Sunday evening at 8:40 o’clock at his home at 447 King street after a serious illness of three weeks. Glenn, who had been an outstanding football player for three years at the Ionia high school, had been in poor health for the past two years. He was born in Ionia February 4, 1918, and was graduated from the Ionia high school in 1936. Active in all sports, he was one of the outstanding football players at the high school. Since his graduation, he had attended all the games and always volunteered to drive a group of players to out-of-town games. October 1, 1937, he was married to Gladys Rittenburgh of Saranac and the couple had made their home in Ionia for the past five years. He was employed by the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture company. He was a member of the Ionia Church of Christ. Surviving him besides his wife, Gladys, is a daughter, Verity Jean, twenty months old; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ries; three brothers, Paul Ries of Lansing, LaVear of Detroit and Duane at home; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at the Boynton funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Rev. Paul Stewart will officiate and burial will be in Balcom cemetery. The body will repose at the home on King street until time for service.
