John Riley died at Camp Custer early Friday morning, having been ill with the prevailing epidemic several days. His mother and sister, who live at Deerfield, were with him when he passed away. Miss Irma Ruessman, a Portland friend, went to Custer Friday. The remains were taken to Deerfield for interment. Mr. Riley came to this vicinity three years ago to work on the Celia Hitchcock farm. He next took a position at Hotel Divine and at the time he was drafted was working for Howard St. Johns. He was well thought of wherever he worked. He was 23 years old. Burt Huizenga, of Sebewa, has also been ill with influenza, at Camp Custer. Saturday he was reported as being slightly better.
