(Larry) Riley, age 85, from Ionia, Mich., passed away Christmas Eve 2013. By Larry's side was his loving wife of 62 wonderful years, Shirley Dawson (Riley). Lawrence was born in Lansing, Mich., and was employed by General Motors for 28 years. Lawrence was a Veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart, he served as an Army Sergeant with the 7th Calvary Infantry Unit. Lawrence was extremely talented and enjoyed working with wood, Lawrence could always be found in his garage working on a new project, but Larry's greatest passion was creating amazing bird houses. Lawrence was a loving father to Judi (Jerry) Sawyers, Larry Riley, Nick (Denise) Riley, and Jodi Heyboer. Lawrence was a wonderful grandfather to many grandchildren, Torri (John) Howell, Jeremy (Carla) Sawyers, Josh (Samantha) Sawyers, Carrie Sawyers, Rod (Sarah) Riley, Ryan Heyboer, Montana Riley and Dakota Riley. Lawrence was also blessed with nine beautiful great grandchildren. Lawrence also had a very dear friend, Judi Wentland, who was like a daughter to him. Lawrence is survived by his sisters Eva Markiw, Helen (Don) Hogan and Gloria Butler. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Lilly Riley, and his brother Ralph Riley. A memorial service as well as a get-together for Lawrence's family and friends will be held in the spring of 2014, so that all of Larry's family and friends may travel safely. The family wishes to say a very special thank you to the Lemmon/Holton Cancer Pavilion and thank the nurses and doctors at the Lettinga Cancer Center for their loving care of Lawrence.
