At dinner time he had complained of feeling badly in the pit of his stomach but drank a cup of tea at the table with his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rimes and conversed with them as usual, later in the afternoon Mrs. Rimes stepped into a neighbors and on returning soon noticed Mr. Rimes at the sink. She spoke to him but he gave no answer and immediately fell. Neighbors were quickly at hand to render assistance and Dr. Pinkham was called but life was extinct. Mr. Rimes was born in Lincolnshire, England February 14, 1830. At the age of twenty-one he with a brother came to American and located in Oakland County. February 1, 1859 he was united in marriage to Miss Aerretta Wilson and their union now severed after fifty-three years of constancy and perfect trust, was blessed by one child, Lewis J. Rimes, who departed this life November 23, 1899. In 1875 Mr. Rimes with his family moved to Montcalm County where he lived twenty-two years. In 1897 he moved to Belding where he resided until death April 18, 1912. A grandson and a great grandson are left to comfort the widow in her declining years. Mr. Rimes was an earnest Christian and a man of sterling character and worth. He was the last of a family of eight children. He leaves a multitude of friends who at this time would extend their sincere sympathy to the bereaved widow, sorrowing grandson and other relatives. The funeral services were held at the late home Saturday morning at seven o’clock after which the remains were taken to the old home cemetery at Entrican. Many friends came to pay their last respects. Rev. Edrie Collins officiated and spoke comforting words. The relatives from abroad were Mrs. Louis Rimes of St. Joseph, and Robert McKenzie of Detroit.
