There was a foreign growth under an eyelid and he wanted it removed. He was taken to Butterworth hospital and there an anesthetic was administered which nauseated him. His stomach settled down and he was again put under the influence of the drug. Dr. Welsh cut a slit in the eyelid, removed a part of the growth underneath and was examining it to determine whether it was of a cancerous nature when both physicians noticed a change in the color of the blood coming from the wound – it suddenly became darker. At the same time his pulse almost stopped and his lunge were almost still. Artificial means were used to assist respiration and everything possible was done to resuscitate the patient but he sank rapidly and died within twenty minutes. [Transcriber's Note: There is a notation on the obituary card that he was buried in Smyrna Cemetery.] File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/r/ring1232nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 1.5 Kb
