May 5, 1904 A PIONEER GONE. Cyrus J. Ring Dies at His Home in Grand Rapids. Cyrus J. Ring a former old resident and much respected citizen of Otisco, died at his home in Grand Rapids, Sunday. His remains were brought to Smyrna Wednesday and taken to his old home from the train, where his many friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last tribute to an old and respected citizen. They met at 1:30 p.m. at the farm home and drove to Smyrna church where the funeral was held. The comforting words were spoken by Rev. D.E. Hill of Greenville. The singers and bearers were chosen from among his old acquaintances of this vicinity and his remains now rest in the old cemetery. The following obituary was read: Cyrus Ring was born in Independence Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Nov. 24, 1834. He came to Michigan when a boy of bout fourteen years with a brother-in-law, Erick McArthur. He returned in a short time however, and came back the second time with his parents., Mr. and Mrs. Wm ring, they settling on the banks of Flat river in what is now the Township of Keene. He was united in marriage to Almira L. White on Oct. 26, 1862 in Grattan, living with and caring for his parents during the Civil War. In 1866 they bought them a farm home near Smyrna of Marcus Tuttle where they resided until Dec. 1898 when they moved to Belding, and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. W.M. Francisco. In December 1902 they with their daughter and family moved to Lowell where they lived about a year and moved to Grand Rapids. He sold his farm in January and bought him a home on Warren Ave. , which he lived to enjoy only three weeks. He departed from this life on Sunday May 1, 1904, making him 70 years 5 months and 7 days. Besides a faithful and devoted widow the deceased leaves one brother Edmond Ring of Alton, one daughter Mrs. Waldo Francisco of Grand Rapids, one adopted daughter Mrs. Floyd Totten of Belding and one grand- child, besides a large circle of friends to mourn the loss of the departed one.
