Portland Review - Dec. 25, 2011


Laurene Trappen Rising found her peace on December 17, 2011 at her home in 
Beulah surrounded by her family. She was born in Portland, Michigan and 
attended Lansing Community College’s Surgical Technician program. She was proud 
of her work at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Northern Michigan Regional Hospital 
in Petoskey, Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona and Munson 
Medical Center in Traverse City. She was a true naturalist and enjoyed 
everything found in nature; plants, animals and minerals. As a free spirit she 
loved to travel and made friends across the country on her many adventures. 

Laurie is survived by her husband Russell Rising of Beulah, daughters Sarah 
(Jim) Adkins of Traverse City and Pamm (Bill) Laing of Beulah, sister Marcia 
Trappen of Lansing and brothers, Peter (Georgina) Trappen of England and Jim 
(Kim) Trappen of Portland. She was lovingly known as Mema to her grandchildren 
Desi, Dani, Sarah, Rhianna, Nelson, Keegan, Jimmy, Tim and Scot and great 
grandchildren Evie and Tristan.

She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Audrey and brothers, 
Russell and John Trappen.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer months of 2012 when the family 
can be together. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Homes & Cremation 
Services, Frankfort & Benzonia.
