Sept. 15, 1932 Anthony Ritter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ritter, was born in Ashland county, Ohio, April 19, 1854, and departed this life September 8, 1932, aged 78 years, four months and 20 days. His boyhood days were spent in Ohio, when a young man he came to Orange township. He was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Stanton of Orange township, Ionia county, March 30, 1879. For three year after they were married they lived on the Stanton farm and then moved to Groton, D. S., where they lived for about ten years. Then they moved to Lake Odessa and have since made their home here. Mr. Ritter was employed as manager and operator of the local branch of the Standard Oil Co. for 22 years. Together they lived through the hardy pioneering days and have raised a fine family of children. Two children dying in infancy and one daughter Maude Vosburgh passed away eight years ago. March 20, 1929, on their Golden anniversary of their marriage their nuptial vows were again spoken in the presence of their children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ritter passed away two years and nine months ago. Father Ritter was an unusually kind and thoughtful father, his first thought always being of his children. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and neighbors as he always had a friendly greeting and a cheerful word for all. He leaves to mourn their loss the following children; Mrs. Sarah Hedges of Detroit, Bruce Ritter of lake Odessa, Grace Patterson of Detroit, Mrs.Mable Teachout of Lansing. Floyd Ritter of Lake Odessa, Harold and Forest Ritter of Detroit, and Roy Ritter of Lansing; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Chapin of California, Mrs. Rachel Terry of Detroit, and Mrs. Lola Cline and Mrs. Christine Soper of Grand Rapids. Card of Thanks We wish to express our sincere thank to the many friends and neighbors for the kindness and sympathy shown during our great bereavement, to Rev. O.F. Bulman for the words of comfort, to those who sent the beautiful flowers, and so willingly helped in any way. The children of Anthony Ritter.
