Maurice H. Ritter, age 93, of Gowen, formerly of Ionia, passed away on Friday, 
February 27, 2004 in Belding. He was born on May 5, 1910 in Hastings, the son 
of Hugh and Lillie (Grames) Ritter, and came to Ionia in 1944.

He was married to the former Dorothy Hines on July 27, 1937 in Lisbon, Mich., 
and she preceded him in death on November 9, 1988.  He worked at Mitchell-
Bentley Corporation and then at Ionia County Memorial Hospital, where he was 
in charge of inventory control, and retired in 1972. His hobbies were 
carpentry and fishing.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Jamie Lynn 
Gunderman and Kimberly Ann Gunderman. Surviving are three daughters, Marie 
Haling of Gowen, Sharon (Leon) Headley of Greenville, and Judy (Jack) Guild of 
Ionia; son, H. Al Ritter of Newaygo; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren 
and five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer Ritter of Hastings; sister, 
Opal Cudney of Copemish; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral and Committal Services will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Harger, 
pastor of Shiloh Community Church, at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Schrauben-Lehman 
Funeral Home, Cook Chapel, Ionia.  Internment will take place at Sunset 
Memorial Gardens in Ionia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 1.  For those desiring, memorial 
contributions may be made to the Hospice of Michigan in memory of Mr. Maurice 
H. Ritter.
