Rittersdorf, 82, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center after suffering a bi-lateral aneurysm, Wednesday. She was born Aug. 7, 1915 in Byron Township, one of the seven children born to Christian and Mary Hagerty Steffes. On Aug. 13, 1938 she married Louis Rittersdorf in Belding. She lived many years in Ionia where she worked and raised her family. She was a long-time assembly person with the Ypsilanti-Reed Factory which later became A.O. Smith Factory, a sub-contractor for General Motors Company. She retired in 1970. While living in Ionia, she was an active communicant of SS. Peter & Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. Since moving to Rockland in 1994, she was an active communicant of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. A devout catholic, she particularly enjoyed regular prayers and devotions with her favorite devotion being the “Devotion To The Infant Jesus of Prague.” In earlier years she enjoyed gardening and canning. She was an accomplished seamstress and was skilled at many types of handiwork. She was survived by one son, Jerry (Pat) of Rockland, Ma.; one sister, Dorothy McCarthy of Grand Rapids; and two grandsons, Brent Rittersdorf and Marc (Laurie) Rittersdorf. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, of 50 years in 1991. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 27, 1997 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway, Rockland, Ma., with Rev. Valmont Gilbert officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Belding at a later date. No visiting hours will be held.
