Bridge, shortly before 7. Mr. Rittersdorf had been in poor health for some time and only recently returned from Blodgett hospital, Grand Rapids, where he had received treatment. John Rittersdorf was born in Keene township, a son of Joseph Rittersdorf. He moved to this city 9 years ago from his farm in Miriam where he was prominent as a farmer and highly respected as a citizen and friend. He held the office of director of the Cowles school, now known as the Kemp school, for several years. Since coming to this city Mr. Rittersdorf has been the caretaker of St. Joseph’s cemetery and always took great pride in his work. He was a faithful member and conscientious worker in the Catholic church where his funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30. Fr. L. L. Dorr officiated and burial was in the family lot in St. Mary’s cemetery, Miriam. The survivors are the widow, Mrs. Margaret Rittersdorf; five daughters, Mrs. William Drier of Belding, Mrs. Leo Cowles of Smyrna, Mrs. Peter Holzgen and Mrs. Nick Zieman of Byron Center and Mrs. Frank Burns of Grand Rapids; three sons, Frank and Julius of Keene and Leo of Holly. The mother, Mrs. Clara Zahm Rittersdorf, died many years ago. The following are the surviving step-children, Mrs. Frank Rittersdorf of Keene, Mrs. Will Daller, Carl, Ralph and Theodore Gasper of Miriam and Miss Mildred Gasper at home.
