Oct. 20, 1955 THOMAS RIVERA DIED INCAR ACCIDENT Thomas P. Rivera 33, of route 2, Lake Odessa, was fatally injured in a one car accident on Jordan Lake Highway early Saturday morning when he apparently fell asleep and his car left the road and hit a tree. The accident happened about 4:30 a.m. south of the Roger Allen farm about five miles north of town as Mr. Rivera was traveling south and alone in the car. He was taken to the Ionia County Memorial hospital by Pickens ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival. Coroner Dale Kauffman said death was due to a possible broken neck and internal injuries. A passing truck driver reported the accident to the Ionia State Police Post and Trooper Donald Linn investigated. He had been a resident here since 1939 coming to this area from San Antonio, Texas. He was employed by the Fisher Body corporation in Lansing. Surviving are his mother Mrs. Sapopa Rivera; one sister Miss Diana Rivera; three brothers, Antonio, Raymond and Ernest all of rural 2, Lake Odessa. Funeral services were held Monday at 9 at the St. Edwards Church with burial in Lakeside cemetery. The Rev. Fr. Stephen Kolenic officiated.
