The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, September 19, 1927

John Rivett, 48 years of age, died suddenly Saturday evening at his home, 233 
Adams street, following an attack of heart disease.  Mr. Rivett had been 
enjoying good health, and  his death was a shock to his family and friends.  
He had been downtown early in the evening, and had returned home ahead of the 
other members of the family.  When they reached home about 10 o’clock Mr. 
Rivett had passed away.

He was born in London, England, March 3, 1879, and came to this country about 
19 years ago with his family, settling at that time in Ionia, and had since 
resided here.  For many years he has been identified with the western division 
of the Grand Trunk Railway company, of which he was chief inspector of the 
water system, traveling a greater share of the time.

Mr. Rivett is survived by four sons, Maurice and Arthur, at home; Robert J., 
who lives on Beresford street, and William, of Detroit; a bother, Arthur 
Rivett, of MacTier, Canada; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Baker, of London, Eng., and 
Mrs. Edith Hands, of Windsor, Ont., and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Martha 
McInnis, who resides with the family here.

He was an active member of the Masonic fraternity and the Loyal Order of Moose.

Funeral service will be held from St. John’s Episcopal church at 2:30 
Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. Edwin G. White officiating.  Burial services at 
the grave at Highland Park cemetery will be under auspices of the Masonic blue 
lodge.  The Knights Templar in full uniform will act as an honorary escort.
