He had been ill for the past several years with a heart ailment and returned home January 1 from St. Lawrence hospital at Lansing after spending 10 weeks there following an attack. A resident at the Roach farm south of Pewamo for the past 32 years since his marriage, Mr. Roach came from Hubbardston. He was married June 7, 1920 and had farmed all that time until his illness. He was appointed as an Ionia county deputy sheriff in the Pewamo area on January 1, 1933 and he served eight years in that capacity, first during the administration of Herbert A. Ross and for one term under the late Leslie H. Murphy. More recently he had been associated with the Production and Marketing association of the federal government with offices in Ionia. He served for the past 3 years as third member for the county committee. Surviving are his wife, Orah; three daughters, Mrs. Marquettia Miller and Mary Jane Roach, both of Lansing, and Mrs. Bernettia Smith of Pewamo; a son, Robert of Westphalia; his mother, Mrs. Julia Roach of Hubbardston; two brothers, William of Detroit and Erwin of Hubbardston; three sisters, Mrs. Harold Cunningham of Hubbardston, Mrs. Rose Bollinger of Ionia and Mrs. Joseph Truhn of Brighton and six grandchildren. Requiem Mass was said at 9 a.m. Monday at the St. Joseph church of Pewamo with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Henige officiating. Burial was made in the St. Joseph cemetery at Pewamo. Arrangements were in charge of the Burns Funeral Home of Carson City.
