Beloved Character Dies At Hubbardston

Patrick Roach 75, son of Margaret and Nicholas Roach was born in North Plains 
township, Ionia county December 23, 1867.  All of his earlier years were spent on 
the farm in North Plains township.  He was married to Margaret Hogan, who preceded 
him in death by many years.

About twenty years ago, he came to Hubbardston where he has since made his home.  He

was employed as janitor of the public school for several years and his faithful 
service and cheerful companionship endeared him to all the children.

For the past two years he has been in failing health, and his death came quietly, 
Sunday morning, January 10, at seven o’clock.  A familiar figure around town, it is

a pleasure to recall, his smiling face, and pleasant manner.  He had a kindly word 
for each and died, dearly beloved by all.

Preceding him in death, beside his wife were two sisters, one brother, one half 
sister and one half brother.  He is survived by one brother, Thomas Roach of 
Hubbardston, and several nieces and nephews.

Largely attended funeral services were held at ten o’clock Tuesday morning from St.

John’s Church, with Rev. Fr. Eugene Fox officiating at the Solemn Requiem Mass.  
Burial was in St. Johns parish cemetery.

Among those who came from away to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Marion 
of Rochester, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Truhn of Brighton and Mr. and Mrs. Walter 
Bollinger of St. Johns, Mrs. Frank Frost, Miss Cela Kennedy and Mrs. Mary Jordan of

Ionia.
