J. Robbins of Gulfport, Florida, giving the sad news of the death of Mrs. Robbins at their home there, April 1. The following extracts from his letter give particulars of her last illness. Mrs. Robbins has been feeble for some time. “She was taken with a light chill Saturday evening, March 30, followed with corresponding fever, which lasted until Sunday evening, but with no pain. She rested well Sunday night, awoke Monday morning bright in mind, and able to converse, which she did with all of us, even passing little pleasantries with Mrs. Cummings of Carson City, Mich., and another of her close friends, Mrs. Dr. Holton (who with her daughter and husband have occupied part of our home for four years). Mabel was by her bedside and I was in a tower room preparing tonic doses of quinine for her when Mabel called hurriedly for me. I was at her bedside promptly. She gasped but twice after I raised her in my arms and was gone. Funeral and burial at her own request made while in usual health will be near our Florida home. All arrangements for the funeral have been made contingent upon the arrival of the children, Ford and Myrtle, who we expect.” Mrs. Harriet Sprague Farman was born at Maple Corners, Ionia county, Mich., June 28, 1839, and was united in marriage to Dr. J. J. Robbins Sept. 25, 1865, after his return from the Civil war. They purchased a home and lived in Hubbardston many years, where the doctor practiced his profession and conducted a drug store. They were popular in social circles here and it was with regret that people let them leave here to make their home near Crystal and later near Boyne Falls, where at the later place Dr. Robbins engaged exclusively in the milling business. Later on they bought a home on Lake street, Petoskey, and went south to spend the winter. While as tourists to St. Petersburg they purchased their present home in Gulfport, nine years later selling their home in Petoskey as Mrs. Robbins was not able to journey. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Walker of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Mabel Derby of Portland, Mich., also a son, Ford P., of Boyne Falls. Mrs. Robbins was loved by all who knew her and the old friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.
