He was born in Ionia on Dec. 10, 1911, to Myron and Ethel L. (Fuller) Roberts. He attended Milan High School and graduated in 1930. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1934 and a master’s degree from Michigan State University in 1940. He married Dorothy Haight Roberts and moved to Dayton in 1970. Mr. Roberts worked as a schoolteacher for eight years and sold sporting goods for Hiler’s Sporting Goods in Ionia. He was a vice-president for Area Sporting Good Sales in Michigan high schools and colleges. He served as president of Tennessee American in Dayton and was in charge of purchasing supplies for the Old Dayton Bank in Dayton until 1988. He was a former chairman of the board and Sunday school teacher at the first United Methodist Church in Dayton, a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Lansing and the Ionia United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Dayton Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was also a member of the Dayton Country Club and the Industrial Gold League. He was the former president of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Roberts; one son, Richard W. Roberts of Mason; one daughter, Jane E. Miller of Littleton, Colo.; one sister, Jane Villany of Dyaton, Tenn.; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be held at Vanderwall Funeral home in Dayton, Tenn., on Thursday after 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Dayton, Tenn. at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Dr. Richard Humphrey and Rev. Douglas Brown. Mr. Roberts will be buried at Highland Park Mausoleum in Ionia.
