James (Jim) Roberts, 67, Ionia, passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2011 with his 
family by his side. He was born Oct. 1, 1944 to John and Bernice Roberts. 

Jim retired from Handlon Correctional Facilities in 1995. He loved to travel 
the world and spend countless hours on the beach. He enjoyed reading about 
history and war, and served his country in the United States Air Force. Most of 
all he loved spending time with his family and his faithful companion Barkley.

Jim is survived by his wife Sandy; children, Mark Roberts (special friend Ana), 
Chris (Wendy) Roberts, Corey Goodemoot (special friend Sanya), Darby (Dawn) 
Goodemoot, Lynsey (Derek) Evangelista; and eight grandchildren, Josh, Chloe, 
Dominic, Cedir, Greysen, Garrit, Callie and Kendall. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Roberts.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 at Lake Funeral Home 
in Ionia, with Pastor Trinity Esquivel officiating. Interment at Balcom 
Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 7 at 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. 
at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jim’s name to the 
Ionia Area Hospice and the Ionia County Humane Society. Online condolences may

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Spectrum 
Health Center and  CareLinc for their care and concern for Jim.
