Until his health failed he looked after his own business affairs with a clear mind and sound judgement. He had a strong personality and won the respect of all who knew him. He, with many others, elderly people, who have passed on this winter, will be most kindly remembered by friends and sorely missed by each family. Daniel F. Roberts was born in the town of Naples, Ontario County, New York, February 10, 1839, and died February 11, 1927, age 88 years and one day. In 1859 he came to Michigan and in December 7, 1861, he was united in marriage to Cynthia S. Jordan. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters, namely: Argie Shellenbarger, Debbie J. Russel, deceased, Anson, J. Roberts, Rosa M. Enz, deceased, Byron Roberts, deceased, and George D. Roberts, all live in or near Lake Odessa. The mother departed this life on December 3, 1914, and in February 1916 he was again married to Emily Cole who died May 22, 1925. Besides the children he is survived by nine grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and a large circle of friends. He was a kind and loving father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The funeral was largely attended at the Calvary United Brethren church Sunday afternoon. Rev. M. A. Dawson preached a most appropriate sermon. The music was by Mrs. Thos. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Goodemoot. The pall bearers were six great-grandsons: Charles Shellenbarger, Dale, Hale, Voight, Devillo and Harold McDiarmid. Burial was at Lake Side cemetery. Kauffman of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Colonel McDiarmid, son Niles and daughter Angeline, Dan Roberts and family, Stirling Ostroth and family of Maple Grove, Mrs. Alice Roberts, son Harry and wife, Charles Shellenbarger and family of Hastings and Chas.
