Mr. Robertson had undergone two operations, and blood transfusions since he had been at the hospital, the last operation of an emergency nature, being performed very recently. He had been in the hospital more than two weeks. Members of his family were called to the hospital Tuesday morning when his condition indicated approaching death. Mr. Robertson was born in Pewamo and lived there during his early youth, attending school there, and graduating from the Pewamo high school. He remained in the employ of the Pewamo bank for several years and became its cashier. About 35 years ago he moved to Ionia where he entered the State Savings bank to become cashier later. Shortly before the world war he went to Orleans and founded the bank of Orleans, later being associated there with Frederic Pitt. His next move was back to Ionia to the First National Bank of Ionia which he served as cashier and vice-president until February 1933. Mr. Robertson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Robertson of Pewamo. His father, a civil war veteran, had served that village for a number of years as justice of the peace. Mr. Robertson was a member of the Ionia Elks and of the Ionia Country club. On December 9, 1896 Mr. Robertson was married to Miss Maude Wyman of Mt. Pleasant, to which city Miss Wyman, a former resident of Pewamo, had moved with her parents. Two daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Robertson, one, Janet, died at the age of seven years. Surviving him are the widow and one daughter, Mrs. Morris Defendorf, of Ionia; four sisters, Mrs. C. H. Lockwood of Ionia, Mrs. Bert Morton of Lansing, Mrs. Ray Barnard of Portland, and Miss Grace Robertson of Grand Rapids, three brothers, Hugh of Ionia, John of Hubbardston and Albert of Lanisng. Subsequent Publication: Friday, October 16, 1936 Funeral services for Alex Robertson, 60, prominent Ionia county banker for more than 35 years and former vice president and cashier of the Ionia National bank, were held from the home, 429 East Washington street, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with Rev. Adam Westmaas, pastor of the Ionia Presbyterian church officiating. Active pall bearers were fellow banks and close friends, Henry Voelker, W. H. Hawley, Dr. Perry C. Robertson, Harry Callow, Leo McAlary, K. R. Smith, Glenn D. Mathews, and William B. Heath. Honorary bearers were Lee Yates, W. Y. Templeton, Fred A. Chapman, Louis Hale, George E. Nichols, Montgomery Webster, Fred W. Green, Ed. S. Yeomans, H. E. Powell of Ionia, and B. F. Hall of Belding. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Max Culehen, Mrs. Fred D. Keister, Sr., Mrs. Archie V. Wright, Mrs. Hauled Hiler and Mrs. George Miller. Relatives from away attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bernard of Portland, Mr. and Mrs. John Robertson of Hubbardston, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Robertson of Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Norton of Lansing, Miss Grace Robertson and Miss Knudsen of Grand Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Watkins and Mr. and Mrs. George Youngs of Owosso, Dr. George Winter of Jackson, Malcomb Wardrop of Mt. Pleasant, Mr. and Mrs. George Amsden of Lansing, and James Ruel of Lansing. Among floral pieces were those sent by the following organizations and business, Group 4 of Michigan Banker’s association, State Savings bank, Masons, Ionia County National bank, employees of Jonathan Hale and Sons, Grand Valley Packing company, employees of the former National bank of Ionia, Elks, and receivers of the National bank of Ionia. Interment was at the Highland Park cemetery.
