(Special) – Henry Robertson, formerly postmaster at this place, met with a sudden death this morning. While attempting to ride a skittish pony, the horse reared and threw him to the ground, breaking his neck. He is an old soldier and his death will be much regretted. James H. Robinson, who was killed at Pewamo yesterday while trying to mount a mustang, was a citizen much respected. He is well known here and was a member of Fred Hall encampment, I.O.O.F., of this city, also of Pewamo lodge, I.O.O.F., and carried insurance in the Maccabees and A.O.U.W. He was an old soldier and a prominent member of the G.A.R. at that place, having been a leader in organizing the post there. He served four years as postmaster under ex President Harrison and was justice of the peace of his town. His death will be much regretted by all who knew him and a loss to the community. Deceased drew a pension of $45 per month. He was a member of the Second Mich. Infantry and lost an arm at Fair Oaks. He leaves a wife and eight children, and besides his insurance in the A.O.U.W. of $2,000 he carried $5,000 in the Northwestern Mutual. He was 52 years of age and had been a life long resident of Pewamo. Additional Comments: Transcriber’s Note: Robertson (Robinson) was spelled differently in each newspaper account.
