Robinson, 77, of Saranac died March 25, 1997 at his residence. He was born April 3, 1919, the son of Gerald G. and Marion D. (Cook) Robinson Sr. in Ionia. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1935. He served on the U.S.S. Solomon’s Naval Aircraft Carrier as a Chief Petty Officer, 3rd Class during WWII. He was a member of the Maple Leaf Squadron. He was an avid Bible reader and a member of the First Christian Church of Ionia for 55 years. He owned and operated a sewing machine service in Saranac for 15 years. In 1956 he was appointed Director of Civilian Defense for the Village of Saranac. He married Eloyce Guernsey June 14, 1941 in Ohio. They have been married for 56 years. He is survived by his wife, Eloyce; two sons, Arden C. Emery of Ionia and Gerald J. Robinson III of Ionia; two sisters, Charlett M. (Jack C.) Rutz of Saranac and Lesa R. (Charles ) III) Theisen of Wilson; one brother-in-law, Leonard Guernsey of Ionia; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas; one sister, Betty C. Struble; and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac with Rev. James Frank officiating. Interment will be at Highland Park Cemetery.
