She was born on Feb. 24, 1931 in Westphalia, the daughter of Joseph and Eleanor (Schafer) Smith. Caroline was a member of St. Patrick Catholic church and the V.F.W. Post 4090 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and with her family. Caroline is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence, Robert, Ambrose, Joseph and Charles; sister, Roberta Weber; and special mother-in-law, Elizabeth Rockey. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Leo; children, Carol (William) Mitchell, Karen (Tom) Graft, Bob (Bonnie) Rockey, Ann (Junior) Miller, Dan (Jessica) Rockey, Barb (Steve) Wilcox, Kathy Rockey and Lisa (Chad) Barker; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and brother, Simon (Revella) Smith. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Larry King on Oct. 4 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal followed at Portland Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
