Roell was subject to epileptic fits and the disease was the secondary cause of his death. About 4 p.m. accompanied by a boy of 8 years named Hugh Finch, he went to the lake to fish. The two were in a boat about ten rods from the shore when Roell was seized by an epileptic attack and fell into the water. David Delehanty another fisherman was not far away in a boat but before he could reach the spot Roell’s body had sunk. Grappling irons were secured and the spot dragged all night without success although the lake is not deep at the point where the accident occurred, much mud on the bottom made the search difficult. The body was found about 8:15 Saturday morning and a coroner’s inquest held later. Roell lived in Belding with his parents 12 years ago.
