Sept. 26, 2018 ARLENE ROLAND, 86 Arlene Bookie Roland age 86 of Ionia, MI passed away September 24, 2018. She was born on November 9, 1932 the daughter of Roy and Edith (North) Bailey. Arlene married Louis Bookie on January 14, 1950, he passed away January 13, 1993. She then married Ronald Roland on September 13, 2003, he passed away July 27, 2018. Arlene worked at J. C. Penny's for many years and later at Meijer passing out food samples. She helped run the family farm with her husband Louis raising sheep and cattle. She loved painting, gardening and watching birds. She was a member of Grove Bible Church in St. Johns. Surviving Arlene are her sons Phillip (Leslie) Bookier of Ionia, Victor (Jolene) Bookie of Orleans, Steve (Connie) Bookie of Ionia; Step-sons Brent (Jan) Roland of North Carolina, Chris(Robin)Roland of Pewamo, Jeffrey (Deb Holtz) Roland of Sparta; sisters Beverly Glass of Grand Rapids, Laura (Mike) Schafer of Hale, Averill Kitchen of Greenville; grandchildren Angela Bookie, Ben(Taylor) Bookie, Stacy (Steve) Huizinga Lynette (Mike ) Dodge, Jacob (Alisa) Bookie and Eric Bookie; 7 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, a step-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Louis Bookie and Ronald Roland. Funeral services for arlene will be held at Green Corners Baptist Church on Friday, September 28th at 11:00AM with Pastor Paul Leslie and Pastor Brendan Holmquist officiating. Interment Easton Cemetery. Visitation will be at Lake funeral Home in Ionia on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
