Ronald E. Corey, 36, of 3985 S. Stage Road, Ionia, was pronounced dead on arrival at Ionia County Memorial Hospital’s emergency room by Dr. Joseph Cline, a Butterworth Hospital physician about 12:05 p.m. Dr. Cline was serving as emergency room physician when Corey was brought to the hospital. “It appeared, through the autopsy, that he (Corey) died of electric shock,” Lass said. Corey was electrocuted in an incident at his home. Dr. Sultan Mohammad, deputy Ionia County Medical Examiner, was also present at the hospital when Corey was brought in and said Dr. Cline attended Corey. Dr. Cline could not be reached for comment Sunday evening. Ionia County Sheriff’s Deputy Darrell Desgranges said that when he arrived at Corey’s residence, Corey was lying on the ground with an unidentified elderly man crouched over him administering CRP. “ETT ambulance arrived just after I did and continued CPR, and transported Corey to the hospital,” Desgranges said. “It appeared that the man (Corey) was attempting to cut an electrical wire that ran from the house to the garage,” Desgranges said. “He was standing on an aluminum ladder and using bare metal wire cutters,” he said. “Apparently when Corey cut the wire it shorted out and electrocuted him. His wife heard him scream. She shut the power off and Corey fell from the ladder.” “That was just before I arrived, with the ambulance arriving shortly after,” Desgranges said. “We immediately administered CPR and transported him to the hospital.” Corey, employed for the last four years at Oldsmobile in Lansing, was a former employee of Brown Corp., in Ionia. He was born May 5, 1946, in Hart, Mich., the son of Carl and Bertie House Corey, and was married Aug. 17, 1970, in Ionia to Maryann Swanson.
