Ionia Standard, 3 May 1895

Lyons, Apr. 30. – Word was received this morning from Thomasville, Ga., 
announcing the death of Miss Artha Roof, who went south in February for the 
benefit of her health, and who was supposed until within a day or two to be 
improving.  She telegraphed Sunday that she would start for home Monday 
morning, and arrangements were made for Mrs. Hutchinson, of Ionia, to meet her 
at Cincinnati; but just before taking the train last evening another message 
was received, saying Miss Artha was some worse and not able to leave that day.  
Mrs. Hutchinson accordingly made arrangements to go through to Georgia, and 
started last night.  This morning a third message stated that the patient died 
last night.  Our whole village mourn the loss of a most estimable young lady, 
and are particularly affected that she should die among strangers.  Her nursing 
and care, however were of the very best, and no pains had been spared to add to 
her comfort in every respect during her sojourn in the south.
