Alice M. Rooney, 68, of Lyons passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 in Grand 
Rapids.  She was born June 14, 1934, the daughter of John and Mary (Williams) 
Smith.  She married Walt Rooney in 1982.  She worked for General Tire and 
GenCorp from 1973 to 1996.  She was a member of the Women of the Moose.  She 
loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.  And also enjoyed craft 
shows and QVC.

She is survived by her husband, Walt Rooney of Lyons; her mother, Mary Smith of 
Newaygo; her children, Nancy (Herb) Carey of Lyons, Cathy (Mike) Rolfe of 
Saranac; James (Randie) Haueter of Hastings; stepchildren, Shawn (Claudia) 
Rooney of Dearborn, Michelle (Don) Ellis of Norfolf, Va.; brothers, Chuck Smith 
and Gary Smith; sisters, Marlene Cory, Joan Hodetts, Bev Hicks, Marilyn 
Shinever, Mary VanderStelt and Deb DeGraaf; six grandchildren; five great-
grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, John; children, Julie K. Haueter and 
Ronald C. Haueter Jr.; one grandson, Eric; brother, John; and her sister, Carol.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia 
with Rev. Mike Hicks.  Interment Danby Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 
p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.
