Lyons Herald, 22 Aug 1907

James E. Root was killed at Harbor Springs Tuesday.  He was working underneath 
some cement steps being built at the entrance to the library building being 
erected there and in some manner the steps gave way and fell onto him, crushing 
his life out.  The body was brought here Wednesday for burial, the funeral 
being held at the Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. H.W. Powell of the 
Baptist Church.  Interment in the Lyons cemetery.

Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Root and nearly all his life lived 
in this vicinity.  He moved to Harbor Springs a few years ago.  He leaves a 
mother, wife, two children, and a brother, all of whom have the sympathy of the 
community in their bereavement.
