For a period of twenty months he has been a great sufferer. During his paroxysms he prayed for relief, and seeing no prospect of recovery, he made full arrangements for his departure to go and be with Him in whom he trusted. Mr. Root made a profession of religion, under the ministration of Rev. Alfred Cornell, some twenty or more years ago, uniting with the First Baptist church of this city. Ira Root was born in Kent, Sitchfield County, Conn., July 31, 1820. He came to Ionia Feb. 1st, 1857. He was married to Elizabeth Edwards April 12, 1844, who survives him. His funeral will be held at the house on Monday afternoon. The remains will be taken to Norwalk, Ohio, for interment. Burial of Ira Root: After noting the arrival of the remains of Ira Root at Norwalk, Ohio, and their interment in the Root family lot in Woodlawn cemetery, The Reflector says: The funeral service was conducted by Norwalk’s large and influential Masonic bodies, the Mt. Vernon and the Norwalk lodges, F. and A.M., Col. C. L. Kennan and F. A. Powers, Masters. The following persons from out of the city attended the funeral: Mrs. Root, wife of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Taylor, of Chicago, and Mr. John Carter of Geneva, Ohio, near relatives of Mrs. Root; Dr. W. B. Thomas, the family physician and Mr. P. H. Taylor, Past Master of Ionia Lodge No. 36. The funeral was attended by many friends and relatives of the deceased from this city.
