Daily Sentinel - Friday, Feb. 26, 1914

J.N. Root, a pioneer resident of this vicinity, died Thursday at the home of his 
son, Edward Root. Mr. Root has lived for many years on the Steele hill, where he 
raised fruit and other produce. Three sons, Ed. of this city,  Abner of the state 
of Washington and Dell of Ontonagon county, Mich. and one daughter, Mrs. Albert 
Holcomb o Montcalm county survive. The wife of the deceased, died about 10 years 
ago. The funeral will be held Saturday from the Evangelical church at 2:30 and 
burial will take place in highland park cemetery.
