ROOT William S. Root, 81, passed away Thursday at the Provincial House at Hastings where he had been a resident since April. Prior to then he was at the Barry County Medical Facility several months. Born Sept. 29, 1883, in Odessa Township, he as the son of Austin and Ada (Backum) Root and attended the Beard Rural School. He married Cora Coon of Barryton Feb. 12, 1918, and was a custom thresher and farmer in the Lake Odessa area until he retired in 1945 and moved to Hastings. Surviving are three sons, William Jr., and Alfred of rural Hastings and Charles of rural Nashville; four daughters, Mrs. Werlin (Zada) Love of Dafter, Upper Peninsula; Mrs. Donald (Ada) Kintz of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Ramond (Marie) Bennett of Temperance and Mrs. Elton (Mae) Bennett of Farmington; 21 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lennie Martin of Ionia. Mrs. Root passed away Sept. 26, 1968. Funeral services were held at 1:30 Saturday at the Leonard Funeral Home at Hastings. Harry Bridgeeman of the Jehovah's Wilnesses officiated, with burial in Lakeside Cemetery at Lake Odessa.
