ROOT Our beloved son, brother, and uncle Nathaniel "Nate" L. Root, age 33, of Chicago, IL. died unexpectedly on Monday, April 11,2022 losing his struggle with drug addiction. He was born October. 1, 1988 in Grand Rapids, MI to Jr.and Lori Root. Nate was a 2007 graduate of Lakewood High School. Received a bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from University of Michigan in 2011. Completing a Master degree in biochemistry from Central Michigan University in 2017. Nate's easy going personality made him friends wherever he went. His smile and quick wit always lit up the room and would guarantee he'd have people laughing in no time. Nate took his grandma Kay's words to heart and made sure he was as much of the world as he possibly could.Wherever he traveled he loved to immerse himself in the culture and get a real sense of how life was there. No matter where life took him Nate's love of music never wavered. He continued to sing and play piano every chance he had. Nates love of adventure and music were only surpassed by his love for his family. Through all of life's challenges Nate never stopped talking about his unconditional love for mom, dad, sister and niece and nephew. He trajectly leaves behind his parents; sister,Kendra (Joseph)Greer; the extra special light of his life, niece and nephew,Clara and Finley, grandparents, Gerald and Joyce Root. Bill and Joan ones; many aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends from around the world. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Roger and Kay Smith. When you think of Nate, think only of the good times and all the joy he shared with the people around him. He will be missed more than words can express, but will live forever in our hearts. If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, please reach out for help, it's never as far away as you think. A time of visitation is scheduled for Monday, April 18, 2022 starting 10 a.. with service beginning at noon and will be live streamed through Koops Funeral Chapel's Facebook. With burial taking place in Lakeside Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Nate's family to be given to a charity yet to be determined.
