Root, 61, route 1, Saranac, wife of Lawrence Root, who owned and operated a drive-in in Lake Odessa for 20 years before retirement. She was born in Kalamo township in Eaton county, October 23, 1909, a daughter of Leon and Mary Swift Briggs. Mr. and Mrs. Root were married May 8, 1928, in Charlotte, and the couple made their home in Lansing and Charlotte before moving to Lake Odessa in 1948 to operate the drive-in. Following retirement in 1968, the couple moved to a home at Morrison lake. Surviving besides her husband is a son Richard of Hastings, a daughter, Mrs. Richard Haddix of Lake Odessa and six grandchildren. Also surviving is her mother, Mrs. Mary Briggs; brother, Gale Briggs, and a sister, Mrs. Velma Myers, all of Charlotte. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. December 22, from Pickens funeral chapel in Lake Odessa, the Rev. Gary Lyons of the Congregational church officiating. Burial will be in Needmore cemetery in Eaton county.
