All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net June 24, 2013, 3:07 pm The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Friday, June 16, 1922 James Rork, pioneer manufacturer and business man, and a resident of Lansing almost continuously since 1850, died Sunday morning at St. Lawrence hospital, Lansing, after a losing fight for eight weeks against the effects of pneumonia, aggravated by his advanced age. Mr. Rork was operated upon a few days ago with a hope that he might be benefited. The operation was performed on the lungs. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 10:30 from the First Baptist church, of which Mr. Rork was deacon and trustee, teacher, and active worker. Four sons, Charles E., Douglas, Ariz.; Frank C., Miami, Ariz.; Elmer J. Indianapolis, Ind., and James E. Rork, Kalamazoo, are left, and also three brothers and two sisters. These are: Thomas Rork, of Rork & Price, and M. J. Rork, of Lansing, and Edward Rork, of Palo, and Mrs. Ellen Little, Rosebush, and Mrs. Rosenie Walker, Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Rork was born January 27, 1850 in the township of Leroy, Ingham county. He spent some of his boyhood in Perry, Shiawassee county. In 1873 he went to Palo and started in business for himself. On October 21, two years later, Mr. Rork married Miss Julia E. Griffith at Palo. Mr. and Mrs. Rork continued to live in Palo until 1880, when he returned to Ingham county and formed a partnership in Lansing with his bother, M. J. Rork. The two brothers opened a farm implement business and also started manufacturing.
