Jerry Ross, 66, of Fenwick, went to meet his Lord Monday, April 19, 1999. He was born Sept. 19, 1932, in Ionia to Mer and Vera (Hill) Ross. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1950 and then moved to the Sheridan area. He married Betty J. Larsen, March 20, 1954, in Sheridan. Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, the last year in a drum and bugle corps. His employment with the Postal Service began in 1957. He worked in Ionia and Lansing offices becoming active in the local and state unions, enjoying his time spent as a state Vice-President. He also loved the farm, believing it to be a great place to raise his large family. In 1979 he retired from the Post Office, but bravely fought his diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, thankful for what he could do. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Betty, and their three sons, Randy and Gaylia Ross, Martin and Laurie Ross, both of Fenwick, Greg and Connie Ross, of Sheridan, and four daughters, Sheila and Jan Morse of Houghton Lake, Brenda and Dan Bissell, of Greenville, Carolyn Ross and Ann Ross, both of Fenwick, his grandchildren, Joe, Jennifer, and Jamie Ross, of Fenwick, Jason and Jacob Ross, Joel and Gavin Lane, of Sheridan, Melissa and Orion Morse, Kevin and Michelle Bissell, of Greenville, Marlayna and Brent Humble, of Belding, Luke, Melinda, Rebekah, Rachel, Robert and Thomas Ross, of Fenwick. In addition, one brother and his wife, Ken and Pam Ross, of Sheridan, one sister-in-law, Joyce and Gene Tefft, of Fenwick and three brothers-in-law, Rev. Robert and Kathy Larsen, of Bliss, Idaho, Fred Larsen, Sheridan, Don and Lois Larsen of Stanton, plus several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, April 21, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Stebbins and Simpson Funeral Home in Sheridan. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Mr. Gilbert Morris officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Sheridan. The family suggests memorial considerations to either the Gratiot Home Care of Stanton or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
