September 11, 2021 ROSS Howard Charles Ross Sr.-March 25, 1938-September 4, 2021 Howard Ross beloved husband, father, grandpa and papa was called to heaven on September 4, 2021. He was born in Ionia to Thomas and Bertha (Jensen) Ross. After attending Ionia High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Serving from 1956 through 1960 as a "Seabee" stationed on Adak, Alaska and Okinawa, Japan. Howard returned to Ionia and married the love of his life, Ruth Ann (Jesko) on March 5, 1960. They have two children, Howard Jr.(Mary) Ross and Roxann (Walter) Wiles. He worked hard and took great care of his family, often working two jobs including at Oldsmobile, Associated Truck Lines, Ionia State Hospital, Ionia Auto Glass, Ionia County Road Commission, and Ionia Ford.He retired from Ionia Road Commission in 2000 to spend more time with his "Ruthie". Along with his wife and children, he will be dearly missed by their grandchildren,Corey(Paige) Peterson, Gentry (Tony) Nnadi, Rachel (Don) Leslie and Matthew Lewis. They all grew up listening to grandpa's stories and appreciating how they became more elaborate as the years went on. His greatest joy in recent years was being papa to their great-grandchildren Teaching his "favorite girl" Adanna Nnadi about "bear traps" and how to speak Japanese. Spending time with Everett Peterson "high Fiving" and playing skid loader. Enjoying holiday visits with Levi and Oliver Leslie. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tom (Buster) and Bob, sister Virginia, Shirley, and Helen (John) Hague. Also his mother and father-in-law Joseph (Theresa) Jesko who he enjoyed a very close relationship with. In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he is survived by his sister Pearl (Bob) McLeod, his brother-in-law and good friend Joe (Sandy) Jesko, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a family viewing at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia on Wednesday, September 8th. A private graveside service will be held at Easton Cemetery on Thursday September 9th with Pastor Joe Fremer officiating.
