He was born in the State of New York, Cayuga County, in 1819, and with his parents moved to Oakland County, Mich. In 1842 he was married to Miss Catherine Davis and in 1852 removed his family and settled in the township of Eureka, Montcalm County. He was one of the first settlers in this section and with other pioneers made a home in the wilderness. In 1868 he bought a farm west of this village, where he lived until 1890, when he removed to Barry County. In 1880 the companion of his youth was suddenly taken away, leaving a family of seven children, two having died in infancy. In 1884 was married to Mrs. Laura Ketchum, who survives him. On Monday, apparently in his usual health, while sitting and conversing with the family, quoting passages of scripture, he was suddenly stricken with paralysis. He rallied somewhat from the first stroke, but on Wednesday had a second attack, which proved fatal. About 38 years ago he was converted and untied with the M.E. church. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church, Rev. C.A. Varnum officiating. Additional Comments: Otisco Cem.
