Mr. Rossman had evidently felt worse than usual and had decided to go into his bedroom and lie down, as his body was lying on the bed, face downward, with one leg and arm hanging over the side of the bed. Mr. Cobb had been over at the Rossman home several times earlier in the day on Saturday and because of the fact that Mr. Rossman had not been feeling very well, he had gone over to call again at about five o’clock. On going into the house and speaking to Mr. Rossman he received no response and on looking in the bedroom, he discovered the dead body of his neighbor. Mr. Cobb notified Ernest Benton and other neighbors and to Dr. F.D. Harrison was called. He stated that death was due to heart failure and that the man had undoubtedly been dead since shortly after the noon hour. About a week before his death, Mr. Rossman, who has specialized in fruit raising for some years past, was up in one of his trees and slipped and started to fall. He caught himself and in stopping his fall, injured himself about the ribs and spine, painfully. He refused to consult a physician at that time but later on complained that the injury pained him considerable and stated that if it kept on he would see a doctor. Friday, the day before his death, he felt inclined to visit the West Michigan fair at Grand Rapids, and went there for that purpose, but after reaching Grand Rapids, his injury pained him so that he came back home early. Mr. Rossman had resided on the farm where he died for many years. He was 67 years of age at the time of his death. His wife passed away about eighteen years ago and since that time he has resided for the most part, alone, relatives at one time having lived with him. He leaves no children, but a sister, Mrs. George Leonard, of Portland, and a brother, William L. Rossman, of Harbor Beach, survive. Funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with Rev. H.S. Ellis officiating and burial was in the Otisco cemetery, by the side of his wife.
