Belding Home News, 11 Mar 1880

Died at home in this township on Sunday, March 7, 1880, after an illness of less
than one week, Mrs. Catherine Rossman, wife of John Rossman, aged 55 years.  She
leaves a husband, three sons, four daughters, a brother and two sisters to mourn
her loss.

Mrs. Rossman was born in Germany Jan. 24, 1825.  She was brought to America by
her parents when seven years old.  The family first settled at Rainham, Canada
but four years later they came to Michigan and settled at Oxford, Oakland
county.  In 1842 the subject of our sketch was married to Mr. John Rossman, then
residing in Lapeer county, a few miles from Oxford.  Here they resided until
1852 when they removed to this section and settled in the township of Eureka,
about 7 miles north-west of Belding.  In 1868 Mr. Rossman purchased and removed
to the farm where the family resided at the time of Mrs. R.’s death.  On Monday,
March 1st, Mother Rossman, after returning home from church, was taken with a
severe chill.  Hopes were entertained of her recovery up to Saturday, when she
grew rapidly worse, and died the morning following.

About 25 years ago Mrs. Rossman made a public profession of religion, and united
with the M.E. Church, and continued a devoted and exemplary christian until the
day of her death.  She was of a kind and sympathetic nature, and was respected
and beloved by all who knew her.  Her funeral took place at the church in this
village on Tuesday, and was attended by a very large concourse of people.
