Also Sister, Miss Elizabeth Roth, Who Went North Last Week The remains of Andrew Roth, who died in the woods near Ironwood, while hunting and lost in the terrible blizzard which raged there, were brought to Ionia for burial and the funeral was held this morning from the Church of SS. Peter & Paul. The bearers were T. A. Carten, F. M. Wirtz, Dan Wittiah, Tom McGannon, M. J. McCormick and R. Mahoney. Those who were here to attend the funeral besides the wife and daughter were Mr. and Mrs. McCormick of Toledo, and Mr. and Mrs. Mahoney of Bay City, brothers-in-law. Mr. Roth was a son of Paul Roth and a former resident of Ionia many years ago. He lived in Toledo, and about seven years ago went north to Port Arthur. He had lived in Ironwood about three months. The story of his death was a sad one. A week ago Sunday in company with three others Mr. Roth went hunting an automobile taking the party about seven miles from Ironwood. They separated, going in twos and agreeing to meet again two miles beyond at the railroad. During the day Mr. Roth separated from the man he was with going to a patch of woods some distance off, and did not return. When the other three arrived at the meeting place he was not there although his dog appeared. After waiting a short time the others started for home where they arrived about 7 o’clock. About 9 o’clock they reported Mr. Roth missing and went back to search for him. They were unable to find him Sunday night or Monday morning. Monday a systematic search was begun and a large number started out. Sunday night shortly after they returned a heavy storm began which developed into a blizzard with snow and wind (unreadable) day Monday. The search was continued but it was not until Thursday afternoon that the searchers came upon the tracks of the lost man and finally found the body. Where he had died from exposure or heart failure superinduced by exhaustion from his efforts to get out of the woods was not known. It is thought that he found himself lost in the terrible storm and in frantic efforts to get out of the woods wore himself out finally being unable to continue further. The storm in which he was lost was one of the most severe they have had there and it is said that no one could have weathered it without protection of some kind.
