Dec. 16, 2008 Donald Duane Roth, age 61, of Stanton, passed away at his home on Friday, Dec. 12, after a two-year battle with colon cancer. Don was born in Mt. Pleasant on Dec. 16, 1946 the only son of Marion & Amy Marie Roth. Both parents have preceded him in death. Don has been a longtime resident of the Stanton area. He graduated from Harrison High School and Central Michigan University with a master in education and taught school in Detroit and Ionia, in addition to classes at Montcalm Community College. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #452 in Stanton; he served as commander of the Son’s of the American Legion numerous times, and the bar manager for many years. In addition he implemented the SAL Santa Auction in 1998, which continues today and served as newsletter editor for over ten years, humoring members and guests with his jovial wit and laughter. Don was an avid supporter of “Hunt of a Lifetime” which provides for children with cancer and his favorite hobby was deer hunting at his beloved TIBID lodge and trails with his partners and old friends. Don is survived by two cousins, Cheryl Ann Deavers of Fort Defiance, Va. and Dale R. Roth, Harrison, in addition to his chosen TIBID family, Dennis (Ethel) Oberlander, Mason, Michael (Lora) Lingeman, Stanton, Kick (Katie) Jamieson, Stanton, Willis (Maggie) Crothers, Rockford and Michael (Linda) Hopkins, Stanton, along with his chosen sons; Ed and Jim Lingeman, both of Stanton and their families. At his request, cremation has taken place. Don requested no visitation or services be held, but that his ashes be spread at his hunting blind by his TIBID family. For those desiring to do so, memorial considerations are suggested to the White Pine Library, 106 E. Walnut Street, Stanton, Michigan 48888. The Simpson Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the Roth family with care and compassion during their time of loss and bereavement.
