Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Tues. April 30, 2013

Richard Allen Roth, 78, of Ionia passed away April 27, 2013 in Grand Rapids. He 
was born March 5, 1935 in Lowell, the son of Carl W. and Thelma A. (Eickhoff) 
Roth.

He graduated from Lowell High School, class of 1953. Richard married Dorothy 
Smith Oct. 23, 1954 in Ionia. He wasn’t on to graduate from WMU class of 1979 
and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Richard was a huge Detroit Tiger and MSU 
fan. He retired from the Department of Corrections. He used to do carpentry and 
was a school bus driver.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy Roth of Ionia; 
daughters, Jan Benton of Lansing and Lyn (Sean) McGuire of Colorado; 
grandchildren, Matthew (Beth) Dyer of Holt, Erin Benton of Lansing, Adam Nelson 
of Wyoming, Mich., Jeffrey (Sherry) Nelson of Kentwood and Laura (Brendan) 
Albert of Ada; great grandchildren, Evelyn, Everett, Norah and Ellie; brother, 
Edward Roth Sr. of Lowell and sister-in-law, Arloa Kurosky of Indiana. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 at Lake Funeral Home 
of Ionia with Pastor Nancy Patera officiating. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. 
Tuesday at the funeral home.
