Edwin farmed for 50 years before retiring and he and Doris traveled the world to fulfill that dream. They were very active in Farm Bureau and Fallasburg Historical Society and other historical and art groups. Edwin stayed active cutting his own firewood up to age 95 and still drove some of the farm tractors in his early '90s. He was the oldest ionia County Farm Bureau member with 71 years of service. He lived through one of the most active technology years from farming using horse drawn equipment with no electricity or phone to the huge computer driven tractors of today and cell phones. ATMs and seeing a man go to the moon. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke or two to make people laugh. His key to a long life was to eat right nutritionally, keep moving and don't worry plus eating Swiss cheese, walnuts, fruits and vegetables, very little sweets and drinking cherry juice.
