Death Takes Well Known Educator

Miss Mabel Rowe Died Tuesday Night At Home Of Father, G.D. Rowe

Funeral To Be Held Friday Afternoon

Was Taken Ill Shortly After Christmas While Spending Holidays In Portland.

A beautiful life came to an end Monday night when Miss Mabel Rowe, aged 49 
years, passed away at the home of her father, George D. Rowe, following an 
operation performed at St. Lawrence hospital, Lansing, four weeks ago.  Funeral 
services will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in charge of 
Rev. John H. Stewart.  Burial will be made in Portland cemetery.

Miss Rowe was born in Orange township and got her early education in the rural 
schools of that township, later attending and graduating from the Portland high 
school.  Following her graduation here she attended college at Valparaiso, 
Indiana, and later took up the study of art receiving her degree at the Chicago 
Art Institute.

Miss Rowe had a wide experience as a teacher and instructor.  Her first 
teaching was done at the Knox school where she remained one year.  She then 
went to Wyandott, near Detroit, where she taught one year.  This was followed 
by two years at Fairbost? Minn.; three years at Lincoln, Ill.; several months 
at South Bend, Ind., and three years at St. Joseph, Mo.  Eight years ago she 
accepted a position as supervisor of art in the schools of Ridgewood, N.J., 
filling that position until her last sickness, which attacked her while she was 
spending the holiday vacation with her father in Portland.

Besides the father, Miss Rowe is survived by two brothers, George V. and Warren 
Rowe, both of Portland.
