She had gone to a hospital in that city where she underwent an operation the week previous and from reports a short time before word of her death was received it was thought her recovery was almost certain. Friday morning, however, a blood clot had formed in an artery and her condition rapidly became so serious that Mr. Rowe was sent for, but she had passed away before he could reach her bedside. The body was brought to Portland and funeral services, in charge of Rev. John H. Stewart, held at her late home west of town Monday afternoon. Interment was made in Portland cemetery. Mrs. Rowe was born 49 years ago at Chase, Michigan. Her maiden name was Winifred Whitcomb and she came to Portland with her mother, who was a sister of Frank Powers, when a small child. She was a member of the graduating class of 1902 of the Portland high school, later marrying Mr. Rowe, the couple residing since on a farm west of town near Kent’s corners. Her mother, Mrs. Margaret Whitcomb, passed away about one year ago. Among those from a distance to attend the funeral were Miss Mable Rowe, of Ridgewood, N.J.; Dr. Nettie Powers and father, Frank Powers, of Muskegon; Mrs. Ida Stevens and Peter Heminover, of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Dayrell and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Balluff, of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Frank La Rue and Mrs. Fred Teeples, of Howell; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tixley, of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Lee Benedict, of Lyons.
